Valsayn dad rescued

ZAHIR Khan, who was kidnapped from his Valsayn home on Saturday, has been found and is safe.

Khan, 69, was said to be in “good spirits” and “healthy” when he was found at a house along Small Street at Second Caledonia in Morvant.

According to police reports, around 5 a.m. yesterday a team of officers from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service made their way to the home having received intelligence that Khan was being held there.

Upon arrival, it appeared the officers were spotted, as a group of men exited the building and fled in various directions. The officers gave chase but the suspects eluded them.

A search of the home was done and Khan was found inside. Although a bit disoriented, he was said to be grateful for the arrival of the officers. He was taken for medical treatment and is expected to be returned to his family.

Shortly after this exercise, Police Commissioner Erla Christopher confirmed the rescue.

She said that the operation was led by herself as well as Deputy Police Commissioner, Intelligence and Investigations, Suzette Martin.

Christopher stressed that all efforts were being made to locate the suspects.

She also commended all the officers involved in the operation and continued to urge the public to work with the police by sharing necessary information on criminal activities or suspected nefarious activities.

At the time, she was speaking to members of the media at the scene of the fire at Farfan Street, Arima, which claimed the lives of Member of Parliament Lisa Morris-Julian and two of her children.

Khan was kidnapped at about 10.55 a.m. on Saturday at his home along Bamboo Settlement #1.

A black Nissan Tiida pulled up next to him, shortly after he arrived home from collecting money from his son’s business Cell 4 Less which is a popular cellular phone and electronics business that operates throughout the country.

Three masked men exited the car and one of the suspects was holding a firearm.

The men grabbed Khan and placed him into the Tiida.

A male relative, who was power-washing the pavement at the time, saw what was transpiring and tried to render aid. However, the armed suspect pointed the weapon at the relative and fired a single shot. The relative took cover.

The suspects then drove off.
